Weekend magic musings

I spent Friday night behind the bar at Grindstone Public House in Noblesville, it was also homecoming for the high school. It was a busy night, but I was still able to perform some magic for a few of the guests. It's always fun to try and incite some wonder behind the bar.

I also managed to book a show for October 27, opening for my buddy Daniel Cullen who is a very talented magician and mentalist. I'll probably end up doing 15-20 minutes of material mainly acting as an MC to warm the crowd up. Only having time for about 3-4 effects, I need to figure out what the heck I'm doing and how to capitalize on those few moments to provide maximum entertainment.

Lastly I spent some time working on a new move, called a thumb propulsion. It's something I've wanted to learn ever since I saw Ricky Jay use it in his special way back in 1996. I've been getting it with some regularity, which has been fun.

2 weeks into trying to do this magic thing, I think the most difficult thing right now is figuring out how to get gigs. However I am enjoying the entrepreneurial journey. If you our anyone you know would like to add some magic to their next event drop me a line. Until then remember what the great poet William Butler Yeats once said, "“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”
